Broken Ice INN

2016

Performative participatory installation

curated by Johanne Nordby Wernø

A site-specific installation consisting of adopted tradition – kakigori (ice shaving), clay, sound and parts of plants that don´t have origin in the Scandinavian environment.

The main idea of this work was to explore labor within the gallery and art context, in a situation where worker/performer is shaving ice live for the audience on a stage.

I was also interested in the notion of materiality in this context, specifically materials that underline human’s need for something to hold, touch and explore with other senses.

A heavy beat-oriented sound collage Förare served as the soundtrack for the event.
